The results from the historic EU referendum has now been declared and the United Kingdom has voted to LEAVE the European Union. One of the major issues facing Europe is the future of its shared currency, the Euro, which was set up in 1995. A U.K.-Sized Hole In Europe The U.K. is the EU’s second-largest economy after Germany. "The decision is going to be respected, but it shows an identity crisis within Europe,” Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said Friday. “Today is a turning point for Europe and the European unification process,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said after the vote for British exit, or Brexit, of the EU was announced.
