Regarding your editorial “The Politics of Destruction” (Sept. 25): An accused is entitled to due process when the state contemplates taking away the accused’s rights. The opportunity to become a Supreme Court justice is a privilege, not a right. You do a disservice applying a rights-based notion to a privilege situation. When we grant privilege amid controversy, we are all free to apply the benefit of the doubt as we choose and to encourage others to adopt our standard.
