Brantford police report high number of overdose calls within 48 hours

In a city that has struggled under the opioid crisis, Brantford police reported it responded to six opioid overdoses leading to three deaths within a span of 48 hours last weekend. On Friday afternoon, police received two calls within less than an hour of each other of separate individuals who had overdosed. Brantford has the second-highest rate of opioid overdoses in the country but does not have any supervised injection sites. Public Health Ontario reported last week that more than 600 Ontarians died from opioid overdoses in the first six months of 2018. Brantford, a city of about 100,000 located half an hour west of Hamilton, has been hit especially hard by the opioid crisis.
