This week a pair of more affordable planar magnetic headphones turned up on my desk. The Brainwavz Alara planar magnetic headphones are relatively affordable at $449 and offer a good introduction to planar magnetic headphones, especially now the excellent Oppo PM3 are no longer produced. The first thing to notice about the Alara headphones is that they are beautifully built. Sometimes, critics of planar magnetic headphones will point out that the technology can be pretty harsh with the treble end of the business. Verdict: The Brainwavz Alara planar magnetic headphones are amazingly good value.
