An 8-year-old boy was fatally shot while riding in a car with his father, and sheriff’s officials say the shooter was firing at vehicles that passed his rural South Carolina home. He was a third-grader from Portsmouth, N.H., who was visiting Florence County, S.C., with his family for a relative’s high school graduation, the Portsmouth Herald said. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Charles Montgomery Allen, 40, who lives on a one-acre property on Old River Road. He was “randomly” shooting at cars, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. He was denied bond and was being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
