A 4-year-old boy killed when a truck in which he was a passenger rolled into a Southland paddock early yesterday was from Dunedin, police say. The boy was travelling with two 6-year-old siblings and the driver, when the truck rolled about 2.50am between Moore and St Ronan’s Rds, near Edendale. Sergeant Clint Wright, of Gore, said the driver of the truck suffered moderate injuries, while the dead child’s siblings suffered minor injuries. The truck was carrying 30 bobby calves at the time of the crash, and a number of calves were put down because of injuries, Sgt Wright said. Police wanted to speak to any witnesses to the crash, as well as people who were travelling towards Gore early yesterday who may have passed a medium-sized truck with high sides.
