Fox 5 San Diego reports that the attack took place early Saturday morning, while he was lobster diving. The 13-year-old boy was at Beacon’s Beach in Encinitas, north of San Diego at around 6.55am local time (just before 3pm UK time). San Diego Sheriff’s Office say that he was airlifted by helicopter to Rady Children’s Hospital with serious injuries to his ear and shoulder. Speaking to NBC 7 Chad Hammel, said he first heard the boy scream: “I got bit”. According to Mr Hammel, the shark followed them as they headed back to shore.
