Box Office: Warner Bros. Has Replaced Universal As A Savior For Movie Theaters

Jokes aside (I’m guessing the trailer for an R-rated Mortal Kombat movie will not play prior to theatrical showings or HBO Max showings of Tim Story’s kid-targeted Tom & Jerry movie. Nonetheless, that PG-rated comedy caper (placing a conventionally animated Tom and Jerry in an otherwise live-action world) is continuing an unofficial pattern for Warner Bros. And, yeah, two weeks after that we get Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat movie on April 16. It’s that shattering of the window which is allowing/justifying Warner Bros. to keep to their 2021 release dates no matter how things proceed. If Universal and Focus helped keep theaters alive at the end of 2020, then Warner Bros. is doing so, relatively speaking, in early 2021.
