Pacific Rim opened with a $14.5 million Friday (including $3.6m in Thursday preview grosses) in July of 2013 for an eventual $37m debut weekend. So, thus far, the $10.362m Friday (including $2.35m in Thursday preview grosses) means that the movie isn’t playing noticeably leggier than its predecessor. As such, we should expect a $26m debut weekend for the $150m Legendary/Universal release. It snagged $1.66 million on Friday for a likely $5.1m debut weekend. The one bit of relative good news is that Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs opened to solid business in 27 theaters yesterday.
