This weekend box office report will be specifically about the outright new movies, namely The Bye Bye Man, Monster Trucks and Sleepless. Of the three outright new movies, if not all six newbies/expansions, the only relative winner was The Bye Bye Man. The Stacy Title-directed title, which is just good enough to make me wish it were “good,” should end the four-day weekend with around $15.02m. Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s Monster Trucks did about as well as expected, which is to say not terribly well at all. But truth be told, the only problem with Monster Trucks is that it cost so much to make.
