The film topped the weekend box office with $16.25 million. The highest compliment that I could give Lionsgate is that they didn’t necessarily need to revive the Saw franchise or the Tyler Perry empire. You don’t have to see the prior Saw movies to understand Jigsaw, but if you haven’t seen the prior Saw movies you’re better off watching the prior Saw movies. We haven’t had a Saw movie that doubled its opening weekend since Saw III in 2005. So, it stands to reason that a $16.25 million debut for Jigsaw means a final domestic total of around $30-$35m, depending on the breaks.
