F. Gary Gray's Fate of the Furious opened with $100.1m over the weekend, which means that it basically played identically to Furious 7 two years ago in terms of opening weekend legs. Fast & Furious was the long-awaited straight-ahead sequel to The Fast and the Furious which reunited Diesel, Walker, Jordanna Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez. Fast & Furious 6 was the "Holy crap, I can't believe how good Fast Five turned out to be!" We're still talking about a $45 million opening day and an opening weekend just over/under $100m, in 2D no less. The animated adventure, about a monkey who must save the world from a power-hungry villain, earned around $107,000 on its opening weekend.
