Cars 3 (review) earned $53.5 million on its debut weekend, for what is a $74.8m worldwide bow. The sequel opened below Cars ($60m in 2006) and Cars 2 ($66m in 2011), but its weekend multiplier (2.74x) was more along the lines of Monsters University than Cars 2. The animated sequel earned an "A" from CinemaScore, continuing Pixar's 18/18 streak of A- to A+ audience polling grades. The film received an A- from CinemaScore, which means opening weekend audiences certainly liked it more than we critics did. Even if it flatlines after this weekend (Notorious earned just 1.8x its weekend figure), a $50 million domestic total is pretty good for this one.
