UglyDolls, a long-in-development movie based on an early 2000s-era toy line, opened with mixed reviews and zero buzz this weekend. The picture earned just $8.5 million this weekend in 2,652 theaters, which is grim news for the (allegedly) $45 million-budgeted toon. It’s an Alibaba Pictures co-production, so it’ll get 40% of its eventual China box office instead of the standard 25%.
