This week, Loblaw Companies Ltd. expanded a recall of PC Organics baby food pouches because they could permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum. No deaths from botulism have been reported in Canada in the last five years, a spokeswoman for the Public Health Agency of Canada said. A computer-generated image depicts anaerobic, spore-forming, Clostridium bacteria. C. botulinum spores are heat resistant and require high heat treatment, preferably with pressure, to reduce growth.
