The new Ōpaoa River Bridge, left, is 10 metres wide, compared to its 5.5m wide predecessor. A new bridge in Blenheim will have both lanes open to motorists this week, after two years of construction. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) system manager Andrew James said the Ōpaoa River Bridge would open to southbound motorists later this week. Once traffic was moved to the new bridge, work would start on preparing the old bridge for cyclists and pedestrians, James said. The final completion date for the old bridge would be confirmed at the end of this year, he said.
