Mr Johnson made the comments in his first sit-down broadcast interview of the contest, with the BBC's The World at One. Krishnan Guru-Murthy - who is due to moderate the Channel 4 debate this Sunday from 6.30pm - urged Mr Johnson to back his debate too.
