It comes after Mr Johnson was referred to the Metropolitan Police by the Cabinet Office as his ministerial diary revealed visits by friends to Chequers during the pandemic. The Cabinet Office passed their concerns to the Metropolitan Police and Thames Valley Police after the visits were highlighted during preparations for a public inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic. No 10 and the Cabinet Office are adamant that ministers were not involved when Whitehall officials passed concerns to the police. Having previously claimed he appears to be the victim of a "politically motivated plot", Mr Johnson was asked whether he believes someone is trying to "stitch him up". A spokesperson for Mr Johnson said: "Some abbreviated entries in Mr Johnson's official diary were queried by Cabinet Office during preparation for the COVID Inquiry.
