The Prime Minister called his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, on Tuesday to “express his regret” that he will be unable to visit as planned, No 10 said. Issuing a read-out of their call, a No 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister spoke to prime minister Modi this morning, to express his regret that he will be unable to visit India later this month as planned. The men also underlined their commitment to build on close collaboration between the two nations “including in response to the pandemic”, No 10 said. India supplies more than 50% of the world’s vaccines, with a billion doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab being manufactured in Pune. The UK has also sourced 11 million face masks and three million packets of paracetamol from the country during the pandemic.
