And yet India is the big bore of the big four emerging markets. In a year when emerging market stocks are up 12.7%, the Sensex Index is up 8.2%. Asian Paints is up, Biocon is down, both indicative of the topsy-turvy performance of a lackluster Indian market this election year. "Modi will be back," thinks Anupam Damani, managing director at Nuveen and co-manager of the TIAA-CREF Emerging Markets Debt Fund (TEDLX). Mimicking peers like Barger at Cartica, Gaffney said, "Even if Modi comes out a little weaker, India will continue to be a bright spot in emerging markets."
