Alcohol is not completely illegal in Qatar, but it is an offence to drink alcohol or be drunk in public under Qatari law. As is importing booze, which could be bad news for the many overseas fans who will come to Qatar for the World Cup. Qatari officials have previously said the 500,000 fans expected to descend on their country during the World Cup will be allowed to consume alcohol in designated zones, but that now appears unlikely.
