NZ First leader Winston Peters said New Zealand was lagging behind Australia, and announced his party would train 1000 extra frontline police over three years to boost the force. We're not ruling out that there'll be more police but it won't be because Winston Peters wants them. This gap reflected an overall increase in crime statistics across the country. Key was not prepared to negotiate with Peters on his demands on forming a Government before the election.
