LIFE as an architect in mid-20th-century Britain was not, it seems, all work, work, work. © John EastAll Saints’, Darlaston, in Walsall, designed by Richard Twentyman, was dedicated in October 1952. Twentyman may not have personified the Protestant work ethic, but he was no slouch, and his work amply repays revisiting. One can only hope that other authors prove similarly willing to undertake research into equally neglected architects and correspondingly disregarded modern churches.
