SEN. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go vowed to protect the welfare of overseas migrant workers as he recognized the contributions of Filipino seafarers to the country's economic development. He reiterated his concern for the plight of over 10 million overseas Filipinos, including seafarers, and their families amid the pandemic. The senator pushed for the immediate passage of Senate Bill (SB) 2234, which aims to establish the Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos (DMWOF). It should also provide Assistance to Nationals services, especially during times of national emergencies such as pandemic or war. Go earlier appealed to the government to include overseas workers, including the seafarers, on the A4 priority list for Covid-19 vaccination rollout.
