Bomet County Assembly ousts its majority leader


On Monday, members of the Bomet County Assembly unanimously removed its leader of majority Mr. Josphat Kirui following an emergency seating to vote on his ouster. Mr. Geoffrey Kipng’etich Korir, the Bomet county Assembly speaker has said he was aware of the notice of motion that had been tabled to discuss the deputy speaker. Majority of the members of the Assembly who are from United Republican Party voted out Mr. Kirui, who is Ndaraweta ward MCA in Bomet Central constituency, in pursuant of standing order 18 of the County Assembly. Mr. Kirui was voted out of office by 26 members of the county assembly out of 29 present at the Monday meeting. The MCAs who supported the ouster of Mr. Kirui accused the leader of majority allegedly of lack of mutual working relations and communication between the county’s Executive and the Assembly.
