In a development that’s raising concerns about potential delays to Toronto’s light rail projects, Waterloo Region has pushed back the opening of its new LRT line, citing Bombardier’s sluggish delivery of new vehicles. Galloway said the latest snag in Waterloo’s $92.4-million order for 14 light rail vehicles was the second setback in the past two months. Toronto's deal with Bombardier originally called for 73 vehicles to enter service by the end of last year, but so far the company has delivered only 19. Regional officials confirmed Tuesday that the first phase of the ION LRT won’t open until 2018. The 19-km rail line running from the Conestoga Mall in Waterloo to the Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener was originally slated to enter service in late 2017.
