MIRI: Approximately 35 hectares of bush land have caught fire over the past 24 hours here, said Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong. "Since Sunday (March 11), our personnel in Miri and Lopeng had to deal with bushfires in the Marina area, Tudan and Pulau Melayu. The bushfires at Marina burned 12ha, 20 ha in Tudan and 2ha in Pulau Melayu," he said. Supt Law added that the Department suspected that the fires were started by people conducting open burning. He added that the situation has since been contained.
