KUALA LUMPUR: A fire at the Mid Valley Mall here, which set off alarms and required the building to be evacuated here on Saturday, was brought under control within 20 minutes of authorities being alerted to it. Eyewitnesses said they saw sparks coming from a fuse box, and this was followed by thick smoke that engulfed the floor. Telecommunications sales executive Siti Aslina Basaruddin, 25, noticed thick smoke when she was on her way back to her workstation after visiting the washroom. Shoppers were seen making their way back into the mall at around 8.15pm. The fire also caused a traffic jam in the vicinity of the shopping mall as curious onlookers tried to find out what happened.
