ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Philippine military said it thwarted a bomb attack in the capital town of Jolo in the southern province of Sulu barely a month after twin suicide bombings, claimed by the Islamic State, killed and wounded dozens of people. Gen. William Gonzales, commander of the anti-terror Joint Task Force Sulu, said a team from the Philippine Coast Guard, patrolling the pier, discovered the bomb near the headquarters of the Maritime Police and the office of the Harbor Master on Saturday evening. Gonzales added that a K9 unit sat near the bomb. Gonzales said the discovery of the bomb and the foiled attack saved a lot of lives. You saved the lives of innocent people and foiled this [terrorist] activity of our heartless enemies,” he added.
