Boeing to pay FAA penalties related to 737 jet production problems

Boeing Co. has agreed to pay $17 million in civil penalties for production lapses related to 737 aircraft models in a settlement with the Federal Aviation Administration, the agency said. They include assessing whether the manufacturer and its suppliers are ready to safely increase 737 production. Problems covered by Boeing’s latest FAA settlement aren’t related to two 737 MAX crashes in late 2018 and early 2019, which claimed 346 lives. The latest FAA settlement involves two production lapses. In 2019, the agency revoked the plane maker’s ability to issue final safety checks on 737 MAX aircraft before it hands them over to customers.
