Bochum hopes to be Germany's 'fastest city' for internet

Photo: Pexels.comThe western city of Bochum is aiming to become a pioneer for Germany in high-speed internet, promising nearly all residents lightning speed rates by the end of 2018. Bochum’s mayor, Thomas Eiskirch, said his city would become Germany’s first “Gigabit City” - as the project is called - by offering households lightning speed internet connections, the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung reported on Sunday. “We will be the fastest city in Germany,” Eiskirch said ahead of his presentation at the CeBIT international IT expo in Hanover on Monday. Internet speed varies greatly across the country, with those in the fastest city, Karlsruhe, surfing on average at twice the rate of those in Erfurt - the worst city, according to a report in December.
