For the vast majority of the 21st century so far, the Blue Jays have gone into the final days of spring training with huge question marks in their starting rotation. The 2022 Jays will feature a starting rotation that many pundits are referring to as the best in the American League, even with the departure of last year’s Cy Young Award winner, Robbie Ray. José Berríos, Kevin Gausman, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Alek Manoah and Yusei Kikuchi make up the deepest and most talented rotation the Blue Jays have had in decades, maybe (and this could be blasphemy, I know) their best starting five ever. Berríos is set to become the Jays’ ninth opening day starter in those 13 seasons, though it’s the third time he’ll get the ball on Day 1 in the last four years. But Manoah didn’t mean that he expects to win 20, or for each of his rotation mates to do so.
