Third baseman Santiago Espinal, who has put together a breakout performance for the Blue Jays this season, landed on the injured list Sunday after suffering a right hip flexor strain a day earlier. “He had (an) MRI and … it showed that it’s a little severe but I think he’ll be all right,” Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said after Sunday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. Dyson came off the bench as a pinch runner in Sunday’s 2-1 victory and went 0-for-1 at the plate. Rookie Kevin Smith, who made his big-league debut last week, started at third for Toronto on Sunday, hitting the series-clinching home run. He and Valera will likely share duties at the hot corner until Espinal is able to return.
