Blue Jays extend contracts of John Gibbons’ coaching staff for next two seasons

The Blue Jays will keep manager John Gibbons’ coaching staff intact for at least the next two seasons, according to a report. The Jays extended the contracts of hitting coach Brook Jacoby, pitching coach Pete Walker, bullpen coach Dane Johnson, third base coach Luis Rivera, and first base coach Tim Leiper, through the 2019, according to Sportsnet. The extension will keep the coaching staff in line with Gibbons, who agreed to an extension through 2019 back in March. Bench coach DeMarlo Hale has opted to continue with a year-to-year contract, while quality control coach Derek Shelton signed a contract in December that runs through 2019. The deals come after the team struggled in June, sparking suggestions in the media that the jobs of some members of the coaching staff could be in jeopardy.
