The Blue Jays went into Monday’s draft in desperate need of some promising college arms and they came away with one of the best available. Toronto made right-hander Alek Manoah, a junior from West Virginia, the 11th overall pick. “We’re excited about the pitch mix that Alek brings to the table,” Blue Jays director of amateur scouting Steve Sanders said shortly after making the pick. If a player was at the top of the draft board when the Blue Jays’ pick came around, that’s who they would be taking. Manoah spent parts of his first two seasons in West Virginia pitching out of the bullpen.
