Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s time with the Blue Jays appears to be over after a month. The backup catcher, who signed a one-year, $1.25-million minor-league deal in January, was designated for assignment, with the Jays selecting the contract of Luke Maile from Triple-A Buffalo to replace him on the 25-man roster. Maile was picked up off waivers from Tampa Bay earlier this month. Jays manager John Gibbons said Saltalamacchia’s 1-for-25 record at the plate hurt his chances with the team, which has struggled offensively so far this year. But the 26-year-old, who was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2012 and started for the Jays on Friday, believes he has something to offer Toronto both defensively and offensively.
