Blue Jays left fielder Melvin Upton Jr. hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning which Minnesota Twins right fielder Max Kepler misplayed, resulting in a dramatic 8-7 comeback victory for Toronto. With one out in the eighth and the Jays trailing 7-6, Upton launched a Ryan Pressly offering to right that Kepler failed to field cleanly. Jays closer Roberto Osuna came in to pitch a perfect ninth inning to preserve the victory while picking up his 29th save. Jays starter Marcus Stroman gave up nine hits through six innings, the majority of which were grounders that found holes though the infield. Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, batting lead off, went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
