The estranged mother of a schoolgirl who took her own life after an exchange of unpleasant messages on social media has called for new regulations to prevent children from using such sites. Rachael Warburton, 33, said that she was “heartbroken” at having to identify the body of Jessica Scatterson, who was 12 when she was found dead, having hanged herself in her father’s home. Alan Moore, the senior coroner for Cheshire who recorded a verdict of suicide, said that the “level and intensity” of Jessica’s activity on social media “cannot have failed to have influenced” her state of mind and intentions.
