Blizzard closes Mt Ruapehu leaving 30 people trappedTVNZBlizzard conditions have closed Mt Ruapehu, leaving dozens of people at the Whakapapa Lodge trapped. TVNZ reported that as many as 30 people were stuck on the mountain, including the Massey University Alpine Club. Student Charlie Watson Jones told ONE News visibility was poor and the winds were "quite bad". Workers were trying to get them off the mountain on Sunday afternoon. Whakapapa skifield operators have advised people to stay put if they could, or if they must leave the mountain, they would be guided down the otherwise closed Bruce Rd.
