More frequent and powerful wildfires, hurricanes and floods are putting backup generators in high demand. Precautionary blackouts to lower the risk of wildfires knocked out cell and internet service in California this fall. Hurricanes, flooding and other severe weather have undermined electric service elsewhere in the country in recent years, hobbling operations at critical infrastructure including hospitals, data centers and wastewater treatment plants.
