The debate over nature versus nurture — i.e. what has the greatest influence on each one of us, our genes or our environment? There’s a Russian guy named Samsonov hired to look after the kids and he’s not funny either. The movie feels longer than it actually is — always a bad sign — and the climax and denoument are positively underwhelming. Quebecois director Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais — who shares the writing credit — will have to shoulder the lion’s share of blame for the film’s general lacklustreness.
