On the next day, he was buried on the premises of historic Sonamasjid in Shibganj upazila as per his last wish, beside valiant freedom fighter Major Nazmul Haque. To recover his body earlier in the day, another valiant freedom fighter Yakub sacrificed his life, just a day before the nation's victory against Pakistani forces. Born on March 6 in 1945, at Rahimganj village under Babuganj upazila in Barisal, Jahangir joined as a cadet at Pakistan Military Academy in 1967. While stationed at Karakoram in West Pakistan, Jahangir took leave on June 10 in 1971, managed to cross the Indian border and met Bangladesh freedom fighters in Maldah district of West Bengal.
