New York and New Jersey lawmakers introduced federal legislation Tuesday requiring the Trump administration to develop an emergency plan if a critical rail tunnel between the two states must undergo repairs before a replacement opens. The bipartisan legislation from Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D., N.J.) and Peter King (R., N.Y.) calls for the U.S. Department of Transportation to devise a backup plan in the event one of the aging rail tubes used by Amtrak and NJ Transit has to close for repairs.
