Saunders was fighting for just the fourth time at super-middleweight and had looked lacklustre in his previous performances at 168lb. And he opened up a lead through rounds three and four as his right hand found a home around Saunders' midriff. Canelo edged further ahead in the seventh stanza after resuming his attack to the body and he enjoyed his best three-minute spell in the eighth as Saunders' right eye began to swell up. Sanchez caught his opponent with a cuffing right hand in the sixth round and, after a delay, Aguilera threw himself to the canvas.
