KUALA LUMPUR: Bills to abolish the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and replace it with the Sales and Service Tax (SST) were tabled in the Dewan Negara today (Aug 20). He added that prices of goods would be monitored when the SST is implemented although the increase will not be as high as the GST. He called on senators to support the bills to ensure that the government’s current balance surplus is maintained. MCA senators Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker opposed the Bill while Datuk Ong Chong Swen said irrespective of whether senators supported the bills, they would receive the King’s assent, as they were money bills. The Dewan Rakyat passed the Sales Tax Bill 2018 on Aug 14 while the Service Tax Bill 2018 on Aug 15.
