A trip to Paris in 2008—where he and friend Travis Kalanick had trouble hailing a cab in the snow—inspired Garrett Camp to cofound Uber, the ride-hailing giant that has made him a billionaire. Now, nearly a decade later, Camp has again found inspiration while traveling—this time to give half of his billions away. He sold StumbleUpon to eBay in 2007 for $75 million, but has since bought it back and remains its chairman. In 2013 he founded Expa, a startup incubator with investors that include fellow billionaires Richard Branson and Meg Whitman. In June cofounder Travis Kalanick resigned as CEO amid investor pressure.
