NHS hospitals are being offered a bedside coronavirus test that gives results within an hour and a half. A company spun off from Cambridge University has been given approval to sell a test that is 98 per cent accurate, and is offering 100 machines free to hospitals through a $3 million (£2.4 million) donation from Sir Chris Hohn, the billionaire hedge fund manager. While the company acknowledges it cannot scale up production quickly enough to solve Britain’s wider testing problems, its machines could carry out thousands of tests a day to get key staff back to work instantly and guide treatment decisions. Unlike the standard test, where a nasal or throat swab is sent to a central lab with results taking at least 24 hours,
