Billionaire H. Wayne Huizenga, who turned Waste Management, Blockbuster and AutoNation into multi-billion dollar businesses, died on Thursday evening at the age of 80. Huizenga, who was born outside of Chicago in 1937 and never finished college, made his first fortune in trash. He started Waste Management in 1962, at age 25, with a single trash truck that he bought with a $5,000 loan from his father. He proceeded to consolidate 100 other garbage pickup companies in the span of five years and turned Waste Management into the biggest company in the industry. Huizenga went on to build two more multi-billion dollar businesses: Blockbuster and AutoNation.
