Bill Nojay, Upstate Assemblyman, Dies After Shooting Himself at a Cemetery

Assemblyman Bill Nojay, a Republican from the Rochester area, fatally shot himself in front of a Rochester police officer at a cemetery on Friday morning, local officials said. When an officer arrived at 9:26, a person inside the cemetery, later identified as Mr. Nojay, shot himself, Mr. Camp said. The trial has been postponed indefinitely, and Mr. Nojay had brushed off the accusation to friends as nothing more than the result of a squabble among his former partners. Mr. Nojay was, he added, “kind of nonchalant.”Brian Kolb, the minority leader in the Assembly, said that he had spoken to Mr. Nojay within the last two weeks and that nothing had seemed amiss. He added that Mr. Nojay had been a very outspoken member of the Legislature.
