The deceased belonged to Mirzapur Nohta locality of Fatuha town in Patna and were members of the same family. In another incident, a boat carrying 12 people capsized in Baghmati river in Samastipur district of Bihar. Reacting to the two separate incidents of drowning in Vaishali and Samastipur districts, Bihar's disaster management minister was quoted by news agency ANI as saying that "government is not answerable".
